FREDDY’S HEROES: CHATHAM XI VS SUPERHERO XI

FREDDY’S HEROES: CHATHAM XI VS SUPERHERO XI

On Sunday 7th May, Chatham Town Football Club are hosting a special day to celebrate the life of Freddy Leitch, who sadly passed away on Sunday 23rd April at the age of 8.

Freddy was an avid supporter of the Chats and attended games as regularly as he could despite battling a rare blood condition called CGD.

His fighting spirit resonated with the Chatham squad, who were moved and touched by Freddy’s fight every day.

“This means a lot to us because it’s a chance for us to give Freddy the sendoff he deserves. He was such an incredible little lad who inspired us all and we want to make this a day to remember for his family who are going through a heartbreaking time.” Chatham’s Jordy Robins said.

“Freddy became a big part of our dressing room throughout the course of the season and when we heard the devastating news it broke us.”

“It wasn’t just the home games Freddy attended. In fact, I vividly remember him supporting us away at VCD during a difficult moment of the season and we managed to turn it around and pick up the win. After this I wondered if Freddy would become a talisman for us because his courage, spirit and relentless fighting off the pitch inspired us to keep fighting on it.” He continued.

“All of us Chatham boys were so pleased Freddy and his incredible family were in the crowd to see us win the Isthmian League, but unfortunately in the immediate days following, his health took a turn. Rest in peace, Freddy.” He finished.
