CHATHAM TOWN WOMEN VETS JOIN KENT LEAGUE
It all began with a charity match at Anchorians, where a group of ladies came together to take on the Anchorians Vets Women. Despite a 2-1 loss (with Rea getting on the scoresheet!), something special was sparked — a shared love for the game and the joy of being part of a team.
As time went on, the group evolved. Some players left, new faces joined, but four original members remained: Rea, Carly, Kirsty, and Jemma. Determined to keep going, the squad started training regularly at Luton Recreation Ground, all committed to continuing their football journey.
Rea, who worked at Chatham Town FC, spoke with the club about the team’s progress — and with our support, the ladies secured a training slot at Chatham. From there, momentum grew. The group bonded, trained hard, and took on their first friendlies — a narrow 4-3 loss to Cuxton, followed by an impressive 3-1 win over Medway United that boosted confidence.
Initially, the plan was to keep training and join a new women’s vets league in the future. However, the league was full — until, unexpectedly, a team dropped out of the top division. The opportunity opened, and without hesitation, the team stepped up to the challenge.
Most of the squad had never played competitive football before, yet they’ve come together brilliantly, thrown straight into the deep end. The team’s spirit, work ethic, and growing quality on the pitch have been clear from day one — and with each game, they’re only getting stronger.
This is just the beginning for Chatham Town Women Vets.
